Final Week
A lighthearted romantic visual novel.
Before my college graduation, I decided to take the VPA 425: Capstone Workshop course. The course is essentially one thing: to create a big project, which could be anything, and I decided to create my third visual novel, Final Week. This project has several improvements over the previous, 180 Degrees:
- Uses the Ren'Py Visual Novel Engine, which is much simpler to use than Adobe Flash
- Uses 100% original character artwork, no appropriated characters
- Ability to save and load games, in addition to quick-save and quick-load
- Ability to customize game settings
- Uses an algorithm to determine the ending you get
- Five endings
This was a tough project due to its size, but I had fun creating it. I asked my younger sister to help me with the artwork, and she agreed, while I worked on the programming and story. Most of the characters were recycled from 180 Degrees and a scrapped project (see 180 Degrees for more info).
You play as a guy who is a successful college student, but has trouble finding a girlfriend. It's your final week of college before graduation, and all of a sudden, your luck changes. Which girl will you end up with?
- Mikaela: Your flirtatious female childhood friend. You have known her since kindergarten. She has been hinting feelings for you, but you don't pick up her subtle signals.
- Anna: A shy girl you have met at the beginning of your final semester. Is in one of your classes. Throughout the semester, she has slowly developed feelings for you.
- Tristina: Considered one of the hottest girls on campus; however, she is very uncomfortable around males, making it tough to win her heart.
- Aurelia: Another attractive girl on campus from a foreign country. Unlike Tristina, she's very open and friendly, but she's somewhat of a pushover.
- There's a possibility you'll end up lonely in the end.
